This is our basset hound, Howard, when he was five months old. He was always told "no" when caught picking up flowers from our garden. I wanted to make a special picture for our friend's birthday, since she dogsat him when he was a puppy. So I took a flower from our garden and put it in his mouth. Howard was so surprised that he just sat there looking at me.

Puppy on a Hike

My wife and I, along with our best friends and their puppy, hiked to Falls Branch Falls near the Cherokee National Forest. This was the puppy's (Miss Charlie's) first hike, and she loved playing in the pool at the base of the falls. We threw the stick and she chased it for at least an hour. She chased the stick for so long that my wife carried her for most of the hike back to the trailhead.

This is Speedy McSpeedster, a male border collie born January 18, 2009. Normally Speedy runs everywhere at full speed; it was a rare find to get a picture of him so serene. The picture was taken in the Nebraska Panhandle. Speedy was lying on the cellar door at my house.

This is Scarlett O'Hara Simpson. She is my dad's golden retriever. She was born in late February or early March. My two younger sisters and I got together and bought her for our dad. Scarlett is now around 80 pounds and is still very much a puppy! She loves dirt, mud, all children, and other dogs.
