Pomeranians
Photograph by Susan Wilkins, My Shot
This is Zorro and his little sister, Madison. They are Pomeranians, approximately two years old. They are active, fun-loving toy dogs who think they are every bit as big as a Labrador. They are members of the spitz family and were favored by Queen Victoria. They are named for the region in East Germany/Poland that is most associated with their early breeding. This picture was taken at the beach in Waldport, Oregon.

Dachshund
Photograph by Jamie Tussey, My Shot
Rory, my longhaired mini dachshund, and I discovered this park near where we lived in New Hampshire. We love hiking and loved that we got the opportunity to climb up this mountain. There were lots of other dogs on the trail that day but she was by far the smallest dog to make it to the top! She still had tons of energy, so we stopped so I could rest and, of course, take some pictures. I think she looks like a great adventurer in this picture.

Cairn Terrier
Photograph by Donovan Johnson, My Shot
Oscar the cairn terrier captures the essence of how we were all feeling at the time. We were traveling north to Kaikoura from Christchurch, New Zealand, for the weekend and stopped on the banks of the Hurunui River for a quick lunch and a bit of a sniff. It was a hot spring day and Oscar had a wild time romping around. Oscar is the happiest and most vocal dog we've owned. He loves everyone and everything. His nicknames include Oscar-otti and Osicar Simpson depending on his pitch and poise.

Dog in Ireland
Photograph by Jamie Turner, My Shot
This was taken in Ireland while driving the Ring of Kerry. The wind was howling and as I was walking out toward the water I looked down and saw this dog following me. He was full of energy and wanted to play but I managed to calm him for the moment and get a series of photos that I just loved.

Alaskan Malamute
Photograph by Emily Jencso, My Shot
Cooper is a 4.5-year-old Alaskan malamute. He weighs in at about 120 pounds. He has worked with me guiding since he was a pup. When we worked the commercial salmon season in Alaska, our skipper would cook him salmon, since Cooper won't eat it raw. He has also worked wilderness therapy, carrying his own pack and spreading his calmness to the kids. He is an everywhere dog despite his large size; he makes friends wherever he goes. This photo was taken overlooking Dark Canyon, Utah.

Airedale Terrier
Photograph by Xavier Canal, My Shot
Nukka is a female Airedale terrier born in January 2009. She's a very calm dog and kind with everyone, especially with kids. Nevertheless, she still has her "crazy" moments. As a terrier, she's also quite stubborn and a bit independent, but that's the way we like her! As can be seen on the picture, she's a keen hiker, too. This shot was taken near the Balandrau peak in the Catalan Pyrenees of Spain.
